Cigar Review: EH Cigars Cultura

Trompeta, 4 1/2" x 38 x 54 ring gauge / $8.99, Maxamar's

Today I'll be reviewing the new EH Cigars Cultura.  This is the new cigar from Edgar Hoill that is being made by CLE cigars.  I picked this cigar up at the event that I did a recap of hereI asked Edgar what the blend was and he was only able to give me (at the moment) is that it is a Nicaraguan puro.  This first release comes in three different sizes, the Vida a 4 1/2" x 38 x 54 x 22 short perfecto, the Pasion a 6 1/2" x 52 x 38 salomon and the size that I will be reviewing today.  They come packed in 10 count boxes.  I smoked at least 3 others of this size before and at least one each of the other sizes.

For the time being these cigars come unbanded and wrapped in spider web tissue paper.  The wrapper on this cigar is kind of lumpy and medium brown in color.  The color was fairly even.  There were a few medium veins to it as well, but nothing that detracted from it.  The cigar felt light in the hand.  When I gave it a squeeze there weren't any soft spots and there was a slight amount of give.  Putting my nose to the wrapper brought about a light cedar aroma with barnyard coming from the foot.  After clipping it and taking a cold draw on it I got notes of cinnamon and banana.

The cigar starts off with a lot of red pepper spice on the tongue and retrohale.  After taking a few puffs on it I get notes of cinnamon, coffee and earth.  The draw was just about perfect and it produced a large volume of smoke.  The burn line was slightly uneven, but nothing too bad.  To me this cigar starts off in the upper end of medium in regards to strength.

As I moved into the second third the spice toned down quite a bit.  The flavors I noted were of leather, earth, coffee and cinnamon, with a hint of cedar.  The strength fell a bit into the middle of the medium range as I moved into this third.

Once I got into the final third the spice started coming back even stronger than at the beginning.  I didn't get much change in the flavors except I started to get a slightly sweet finish.  I don't thing the cigar got out of the medium-full range.  The draw continued to be great and the burn while slightly wavy didn't cause any issues.

Overall I really enjoyed this cigar.  To me this is the best size in the blend.  I really think these will age well and I will definitely be putting some down to see how that goes.  While there is a bit a strength to this cigar I don't think it would be overpowering except to those who are very sensitive to nicotine.  I would recommend giving it a try if you come across it.
