Cigar Review: Davidoff Millenium Blend Robusto

Robusto, 5” x 50 ring gauge / $17.99, Maxamar's

I know that this isn't a new release and Dave has already reviewed it here and taken a second look at it here.  However when the owner of my regular shop gave it to me and asked if I'd review it for the site, I couldn't object.  I know I've smoked this blend before, although I can't remember what sizes.

The wrapper on this sample was a nice peanut brown in color with a little bit of darker mottling.  There was a good amount of oils present and the texture was slightly velvety.  When I gave the cigar a squeeze I couldn't find any soft spots and it was fairly firm.  Putting my nose to the wrapper brought about notes of leather, with barnyard and hay coming from the foot.  After clipping it taking a cold draw on it I got notes of sugary sweetness and leather with a bit of spice on the tongue.

Light it up starts off with lots of spice, notes of cream, leather, wood and a bit of the signature Davidoff flavor.  After a few puffs I started to get notes of cinnamon and graham cracker as well.  The draw was just about perfect, and while the burn was a bit wavy it didn't require any help.  I would classify this cigar in the medium range to start.

Moving into the second third didn't see a whole lot of change in the flavors at the beginning.  The spice moved from the tip of the tongue into a wasabi like burn on the retrohale.  At the end of the second third the flavors changed slightly to graham, cinnamon, leather and earth.  The spice also toned itself down a bit as well.  The cigar did tar up a bit and I needed to re-cut it.  The cigar built into the medium-full range by the end of this third.

As I moved into the final third of the cigar the flavors changed a bit to leather, coffee, cinnamon and graham cracker.  The spice was still present and built up a bit at the very end.

Overall this was a very enjoyable cigar.  I did enjoy the flavors and it had enough change in them to keep me interested.  However the price point is just too high for my wallet.  I'd rather get 2-3 other cigars that I enjoy just as much for the same amount.  If you do like Davidoff's and are looking for something with a bit more power and flavors this is definitely one to try.

  1. I have never smoked a Davidoff of any kind and to be honest at those prices I doubt I will, the interest is there but I just don't see many sticks being worth those prices.
