Khilla Korona, 4.875" x 50 ring gauge / approx. $11
I reviewed the Bruto Belicoso size of the Entubar V32 a few months ago and while I liked it, I wasn't exactly blown away by it. As might be expected, one of the problems I had with it was the 60 ring gauge size, and I hoped I would be able to try it again in a smaller vitola. It wasn't much after that I got a box in the mail from Berger and Argenti...and my wish was fulfilled! This size is the smallest size available and while I don't see that it fits the Corona vitola at all...well, they call it a Korona, so maybe that's all right. These are all Nicaraguan, with tobaccos from Esteli, Condega, Jalapa and Jinotega regions, all wrapped up in a Jalapa Maduro leaf. The V32 refers to the 32 ring gauge plug of Ligero that is separately bunched right in the middle of this cigar, with a fuse-like stub sticking out of the foot.
The cold draw was very nice...a very Nicaraguan mix of earth, black coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Lighting up brought a full-bodied, oily smoke with tons of earth and touches of leather on the palate, along with an almost painfully spicy retrohale...and just enough sweetness to remind you that this is a Maduro wrapper. The first third of the V32 was full bodied and bordered on harsh at times. Earthier notes came through the strongest. The draw, as I have experienced with every Entubar, was flawless.
I did enjoy the V32 Khilla Korona more than the larger ring gauge version I had earlier, but I still have to say that this version of the Entubar just did not live up to my expectations. Maybe it's because the cigar has "that much more" Ligero...and I'm not sure it needed it. Maybe its the fact that it is a limited release. Maybe it's because it costs a few dollars more a stick. Whatever the cause, I just expected more flavor and a bigger experience than this stogie delivered. I could not say this was a failure in any way...it is a very good cigar still...just a tough sell when put up against one of my Perfect 10 cigars from 2011, the Entubar Quad Maduro.

P.S. Sorry to the 5 regular readers out there who missed our Thursday review post (5? Yeah...it's up from 2! Ha!). I had a review ready to post and woke up to discover that AT&T had somehow seriously screwed up my phone service, and by extension because we are on DSL, my internet connection. By the time I had a connection to speak of, it was far too late to post the regular Thursday piece. Assuming I don't have another web failure, it will post this Saturday instead.

I love the Quad Maduros, so I'll have an eye out for the V32s.
ReplyDeleteNice Quick Review at these prices they really should stand up on their own, not sure if this is one stick I'll be searching out.
ReplyDeleteSo you have three of your five regular readers checking in here. LOL I haven't tried any of the Entubars due to the price, but will definitely have to at some point. I do love the Mooch maduro Minnie.
ReplyDeleteGreat review.
