Difference of Opinion About Davidoff
Yes, i would agree that Davidoffs are expensive, but to me they are worth the extra dough. First, they are among the most consistent of cigars. I have never had one burn uneven. Second, the flavor is smooth and complex enough to warrant the higher price tag. Granted, I can't smoke these every day because of both price and availability, but when I visit a certain shop down in Orange, CA. I make it a point to pick one up.

Quote of the Day
"You can put lipstick on a pig, but then the Democrats will just tax the pig, tax the lipstick and tell you that you can marry the pig because it's just a lifestyle choice.
You can put lipstick on a 'community organizer,' but it doesn't make him Presidential material."

Cigar Round-up, #1
Instead of waiting until I get around to writing full reviews of everything I smoke, I am going to institute a new review method of short, quick reviews for cigars that I have smoked over a period of a few days (or whatever other time period I deem appropriate). I am again using the American Front Porch rating scale and also adding in 3 new measuring scales, based on my experiences with that cigar: Body, Strength, and Flavor. These are all 3 on a 1 to 10 scale and are defined thusly: Body goes from 1 being very mild to 10 being very full-bodied; because Body and Strength do no always walk hand-in-hand, Strength is a general measurement of how much of buzz the stogie gives (or if it makes you full like puking); Flavor, in this context, is a measure of how complex the cigar is--does it have a good flavor that changes and modulates through the smoke. This last measure may duplicate the flavor measurement in the AFP scale, but I wanted to establish it on a 1-10 scale by itself as well to give myself a little more latitude in describing my overall impression of the cigar. So, here goes...
5 Vegas Gold: Nugget (4.5" x 44)
Body: 2
Strength: 4
Flavor: 8
Creamy, but with a hint of spice, especially in the early going. This is a fantastic little smoke and I definitely want to try other sizes.
Prelight: 2/2
Construction/Draw: 2/2
Flavor: 4.5/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9.5/10
Arturo Fuente Hemingway: Classic (7" x 48)
Body: 7
Strength: 7
Flavor: 10
Spicy, but not strong enough to bowl you over. Lots of flavor in the classic perfecto shape. Too pricey to enjoy frequently, though.
Prelight: 2/2
Construction/Draw: 2/2
Flavor: 5/5
Value: .5/1
Overall: 9.5/10
Litto Gomez Diez: Oriental (5" x 40)
Body: 8
Strength: 9
Flavor: 6
More strength than flavor in this one. Good, but not great. Definitely a hard sell at the price point (about $12).
Prelight: 2/2
Construction/Draw: 2/2
Flavor: 3.5/5
Value: 0/1
Total: 7.5/10
Alec Bradley Trilogy, Native Cameroon: Robusto (5" x 52)
Body: 5
Strength: 4
Flavor: 4
Some interesting sweet-spice flavors at the beginning, getting more leatherly and quite bland toward the middle. Strictly middle-of-the-road experience.
Prelight: 1/2
Construction/Draw: 1/2
Flavor: 3.5/5
Value: .5/1
Total: 6/10
Perdomo 2: Milenario Maduro (6.5" x 55)
Body: 9
Strength: 8
Flavor: 9
Wonderful prelight waft of chocolate and rich coffee; dinged it .5 point for its somewhat rough appearance. After starting off on the unspectacular side, this cigar exploded with flavor in the second third. Nutty, with some coffee notes. Great, great, great cigar. Got to get some more of these.
Prelight: 1.5/2
Construction/Draw: 2/2
Flavor: 5/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9.5/10
